At least that is what partisan politics and the mainstream media want you to think. It irks me that we can't hear more from our third party candidates on a national level. There is the occasional national exposure from guys like Perot in 92 and Nader in most elections since but c'mon do we have to choose brand A or B every four years. It is in the best interests of Democrats and Republicans and their financial supporters (major television networks) that we don't hear fresh ideas from "political outsiders" - the people may just like what they hear.
Why are people like Ron Paul and Ralph Nader not allowed to debate the issues and present their case for the presidency just like McCain and Obama. They obviously have followers, Nader has been around forever and Paul's "Revolution" is a best seller. Who are these people that throw independant thinking out the window and subscribe to either red or blue ideas. How can someone go on record as agreeing 100% with their party, you have to mindless or spineless and I don't want to hear your opinion if you are either of those.
This country is changing though, we are getting smarter and access to information is getting better (thank you Al Gore for inventing the internet). We will know more and more every cycle and one day the people will truly speak for what they want and not just have to choose Coke or Pepsi. One day we will all be able to drink Diet-Chocolate-Cherry-Dr.Pepper (or maybe just see some more candidates in the debate.) The election is one of the last places where choice is relagated to "either / or" if I can order 50 different colors, textures and styles of underwear from my home computer in my underwear then I should be able to have more choices for the leader of the "free" world!

HOMOTICIANS I agree there should be more candidates involved in the debates.Or at least have two from parties that aren't so far up each others A$$ it's almost impossible to tell which is which.Since being bi-partisant has become the politically correct thing to be it seems that both the rep and dem partys are becomeing homogenized into one say anything, stand for nothing party.I don't want someone willing to compromise their politcal beliefs and "reach across the aisle".I want someone that actually believes in something so strongly their not willing to compromise just to get something done which usually amounts to nothing.
Most of the rank and file members have firm believes but the ones running for office are nothing but political whores, willing to jump into bed with whoever they can for their own gain.
The fundamental idealogies of both parties are nothing but perpetual arguments to provide the candidates with a soap box to stand upon everytime an election rolls around.Pure old B.S. to energize their base.Nothing is ever resolved, nothing changes. Then next election cycle the same crap is regergitated so it can be passed around and swallowed by pretty much the same crowd as before... If they were dumb enough to allow folks from other parties to partcipate in their so-called debates it would only illuminate the fact that there's really not enough difference between the two to make a difference.
Our whole election process is a pathetic joke. It takes millions upon millions of dollars to be able to run an effective campaign, the media is no more than a propaganda machine and the majority of voters want nothing more than an average person to run the country.Let's face it the "average" Joe is to dumb, lazy and self-centered to do anything other than what is absolutley necessary or what benefits them the most. Winning to most means no more than "their guy" not losing.
There's lots of things that need to be fixed in this country but I am believing more and more each day it will never get done via the election process.
The things that are wrong aren't on the exterior anymore but have permeated the very fabric of our whole system.
